Suspected drunk driver drives into Lake Michigan in Leelanau County (VIDEO)

LEELANAU COUNTY (WWJ) — The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office is warning drivers to be vigilant and sober— as they release a video of a suspected drunk driver driving into Lake Michigan in the northern part of the state. SEE VIDEO HERE.

“As summer quickly comes to an end, The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office would like to remind drivers that paying full attention to the road as you drive is of the utmost importance,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on Facebook.

The incident took place on Friday, August 16th around 8:12 p.m. in the Village of Omena in Leelanau Township, about 30 miles north of Traverse City.

No one was injured, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrested the driver for Operating While Intoxicated. The Leelanau County Prosecutor is reviewing potential charges.
