DETROIT (WWJ) -- One more round of thunderstorms is targeting Southeast Michigan, ahead of a pretty nice looking holiday weekend.

While Metro Detroiters are still cleaning up from gusty storms that brought down trees and power lines on Tuesday , forecasters warn that more severe weather is eyeing our area.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson says after a rain-free but muggy Thursday, it'll be a hot and humid Friday in Metro Detroit, before the rain rolls in later in the day.

"There will be the risk for a strong thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening," Thompson said, speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950 on Thursday. "Any storm could produce damaging winds and hail and cause flash flooding — so that's something to keep in mind later tomorrow."

According to the National Weather Service, there's a 60 to 70% chance for thunderstorms in the WWJ listening area Friday afternoon and evening; although it's still uncertain how widespread the storms will be.

Along with powerful wind gusts of 60 mph or greater, the NWS said this system could also produce 1-inch hail and an isolated tornado.

The window for this severe weather is 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday.

After that, however, the outlook is much improved for Labor Day weekend.

Thompson said Saturday morning will see some clouds with a shower possible to start the day, but that the sunshine will return Saturday afternoon ...and it will turn much less humid as the day goes on. The high on Saturday in Detroit will be around 81 degrees.

"And by Sunday and Labor Day it looks really nice," Thompson said. "Lots of sunshine, very low humidity, high 80 on Sunday, high 73 on Labor Day."
