DETROIT (WWJ) A barricaded gunman situation on Detroit’s west side lasted for more than nine hours with the suspect still on the run.

Detroit Police told WWJ the suspect shot the victim three times on Friday (8/30) around 3 p.m. The suspect then ran back into the home on Whitfield at Beechwood, in the area of Joy Road and I-96.

The barricaded situation came to an end on Saturday around 12:30 a.m., police said.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

In a Detroit Police press conference posted by WDIV-ClickOnDetroi t, Deputy Chief Arnold Williams told reporters that the suspect has “done violent things in the past” and he’s armed with “many different weapons” including long guns and hand guns.

The incident may have stemmed from an argument between the victim’s mother and the shooter, he said.

Officers had contact with the suspect but lost it at some point; they also used tear gas and other diversionary devices, according to Williams.

The victim, a man, is hospitalized in temporary serious condition. Police have not released any information on the relationship between the victim and the suspect or how they knew each other.
