    “Isolated” shooting near University of Michigan leaves 23-year-old man in critical condition, suspect at large: police

    ANN ARBOR (WWJ) A shooting in Ann Arbor left a young Ypsilanti man in critical condition, with the suspect still on the run.

    In a statement on X , Ann Arbor Police said they were called to the area of William and Maynard, one tenth of a mile from the University of Michigan, on Sunday (9/1) around 3:25 a.m.

    When they arrived, officers found a man, 23, who had been shot in his chest.

    Officers rendered first aid and rushed him to the hospital where he’s listed in critical condition.

    Police said the suspect fled the scene in a white sedan. He’s described as a black male in his 20s, wearing a white shirt and black pants.

    The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security put out an an alert to students, staff and faculty around 3:53 a.m. to avoid the area.

    At 5:11 a.m., they issued the “all clear” and said it was “safe to resume normal activities.”

    Ann Arbor Police said this appears to be an “isolated incident”. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
