Truck slams into medical building after leaving road in West Bloomfield, sending driver to the hospital

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) — An investigation is underway after a pickup truck crashed into a medical building in West Bloomfield Wednesday evening.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. along Orchard Lake Road near Pinehurst Road, according to West Bloomfield Deputy Police Chief Dale Young.

A Ford F-150 was headed south on Orchard Lake south of Pinehurst when it left the roadway and slammed into the professional medical building, according to Young. He said the truck became embedded in the building, possibly compromising its structure.

Investigators at the scene did not believe anyone was inside the building at the time.

The driver of the F-150 was the only occupant of the truck. They were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Both directions of the road remained closed while authorities investigated and worked to determine whether the building was structurally sound.
