WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) — A West Bloomfield family’s pet is being credited with saving them from a fire Tuesday night.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to a home on Willow Road around 10 p.m. after getting reports of a structure fire on the outside of the home.

When crews showed up, they found the family outside, along with their pets.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire on the outside of the home and limit the damage.

The family was inside the home watching TV Tuesday night when a family pet alerted them to the fire, according to the West Bloomfield Fire Department.

All the people and pets inside the home were able to safely get outside and call 911. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire officials say while crews were called to the home Tuesday night, there were several other emergency calls throughout West Bloomfield. The Bloomfield Township Fire Department provided coverage to those calls while crews were at the scene of the fire.

“Please remember to test your smoke alarms, have a meeting place outside of your home, and practice your escape,” the fire department said in a press release.
