LA SALLE (WWJ) — A man has been injured after falling off a ladder into a hole on Wednesday in Monroe County while working on a bridge over I-75.

The incident happened in the area of I-75 near Otter Creek Road in La Salle, about 10 miles north of the Michigan-Ohio border.

La Salle Township Supervisor and Assistant Fire Chief Aaron Goldsmith told WWJ’s Darrylin Horne the man was climbing up a ladder with muddy boots when he missed a step and slipped.

The man “rode the ladder” back down into the hole, which Goldsmith said was about 20-30 feet deep.

The man suffered ankle injuries and had already gotten out of the hole before fire crews arrived on the scene, according to Goldsmith. The man was working on the bridge over Otter Creek.

MDOT officials told WWJ the man was a subcontractor and an ambulance took him to the hospital. The extent of his ankle injuries was not immediately known.
