Monroe County student reports online school threat to bus driver, authorities deem it was previously investigated case from Ohio

CARLETON (WWJ) — Authorities are asking parents to remind their kids about “responsible social media use” after police investigated a reported Snapchat threat against a Monroe County school Wednesday morning.

Administrators with the Airport Community School District got word of the threat that was shared on a school bus Wednesday morning.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a student reported the threatening post to the bus driver, who immediately notified school officials.

School resource officers conducted an investigation into the validity of the post and determined there was no direct connection to Airport Community Schools and no credible threat against the district.

While authorities did not disclose any information about the alleged threat, officials said the post was generated from a school district in Ohio and had already been reported and investigated by the Ohio school district and authorities.

“We ask all parents to remind their children about the importance of responsible social media use and to report any suspicious or concerning activity to school officials, law enforcement or OK2SAY immediately,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

“The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office credits the quick reporting by the student and the working relationship with the Airport Community Schools Administration in quickly investigating the credibility of the post.”

Also on Wednesday, a John Glenn High School in Westland was placed on a soft lockdown due to a school threat .
