DETROIT (WWJ) — A Detroit man has been remanded to jail after being arraigned Wednesday on felony charges for the 2022 death of a retired Detroit police officer and the shootings of two other people.

Erik Delano Davis is accused of killing 41-year-old Stefon Hodo, stealing his car and gun, and using it to shoot at two other people.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree home invasion, discharge of a firearm in or at a building, discharge of a firearm in or at a building causing serious impairment, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearm.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office says the investigation began on June 30, 2022, when Detroit police were called to a home on Ferguson Street, near Fenkell and the Southfield Freeway, regarding a shooting.

When officers showed up shortly after 11 a.m. they found a 39-year-old woman who had not been injured. About three hours later police were called back to the same home for a second reported shooting.

Officers then found a 47-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the hand and he was taken to the hospital, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Investigators were then led to Hodo’s home on Ferguson Street. He was not there so police filed a missing person’s report. They then learned Davis and Hodo had allegedly gotten into an argument and Davis killed Hodo and moved his body to another location. He then allegedly broke into Hodo’s home and stole his car and handgun.

About two weeks later authorities found Hodo’s body at Stoepel Park . The medical examiner determined his death was a homicide, caused by multiple sharp force injuries to the head.

Davis allegedly used the stolen gun in the other shootings on Ferguson, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Davis was arrested on July 1, 2022. The prosecutor’s office says more facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary exam, which has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Authorities have not released any information about a possible motive in the case or why it took more than two years for charges to be brought.
