DETROIT (WWJ) — The search is on for the driver of a car who hit a man riding a bike on Detroit’s west side on Labor Day weekend and fled the scene.

The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 at the intersection of Mackenzie and Central, in the area of Joy Road and Livernois, according to the Detroit Police Department.

DPD officials on Friday released video footage of the hit-and-run, showing a 36-year-old man riding his bike into the intersection. The burgundy Chrysler 200 with limited trim is seen driving right towards the man on the bike as they crossed paths.

The video ends just before impact.

Police officials say the suspect fled the scene, while the victim was taken to the hospital. In a Friday press release officials said the victim is still being treated at the hospital for his injuries.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the car or knows something about the hit-and-run to call the Detroit Police Department’s Fatal Squad Unit at 313-596-2260.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or online at DetroitRewards.tv , which is offering a $500 reward for tips in the case.
