ELLINGTON (WWJ) A car crash in the Thumb area killed a 14-year-old passenger and injured the 14-year-old driver.

In a statement on X; Michigan State Police Third District said troopers responded to reports of a car crash in Ellington Township, about 40 miles northeast of Saginaw, on Saturday (9/21) around 4:20 p.m.

Preliminary investigation showed a 14-year-old Bay City boy had crashed a 2001 Cadillac into a tree in a rural area, near Broadway and N. Murray Road.

His only passenger, a 14-year-old Kawkawlin boy, “became entrapped in the back of the vehicle” and died at the scene from his injuries; State Police said.

The young driver was hospitalized in stable condition with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not release any information about how the teens knew each other, or why they were in the car alone together.

The case remains under investigation. After the investigation completes, the results will be sent to the Tuscola County prosecutor for review.

You never know exactly what your kids are up to, unfortunately. I know mine didn't know half the crap I did as a kid. Why do I think it's stupid to blame parents for everything.💁‍♀️
