    Three men from Mexico caught in Michigan after entering the U.S. from Canada on a raft: police

    PORT HURON (WWJ) -- Three men were caught by police in Port Huron, Michigan, after allegedly trying to sneak into the U.S. on a raft.

    Assistant Chief Jeremy Young said the U.S. Coast Guard alerted the Port Huron Police Department to the situation, after spotting the suspects on Wednesday

    "They reported three Hispanic males crossing over the St. Clair River from Canada, into the United States, on a small raft," Young said. "Our officers responded to start checking the area."

    The men left their raft near the mouth of the Black River, Young said, and were then spotted carrying duffel bags while running on Michigan Street, near Grand River Ave.

    Officers intercepted the men, they were detained and handed over to U.S. Border Patrol for illegal entry to the U.S.

    All three were identified as Mexican citizens, Young said.
