(WWJ) — The manager of an Oakland County nursing home has been charged with stealing nearly $8,000 from vulnerable adults who lived at the facility.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel on Wednesday announced 27-year-old Alex Ambrose of Southfield has been arraigned on nine felony counts of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult.

Ambrose used to be the manager of Mission Point Nursing & Physical Rehabilitation near 10 Mile and Hoover in Warren, according to the attorney general’s office.

Between September 2023 and January 2024 Ambrose allegedly acquired $7,792 in checks from nursing home residents and deposited the money into his personal accounts.

“Using a position of trust and authority to steal from vulnerable adults is reprehensible,” Nessel said, per a press release. “Such behavior has consequences, and my office will work to make sure perpetrators are held accountable.”

Ambrose is charged with four counts of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult between $1,000 and $20,000 and five counts of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult more than $200 but less than $1,000.

Officials did not release any information about the victims or how Ambrose allegedly got the checks.

Ambrose was released on a $20,000 cash/surety bond following his arraignment in 37th District Court. His next court date has been scheduled for Oct. 3.

The Attorney General’s Health Care Fraud Division (HCFD) handled this case for the Department.

It’s sad, but a lot of bad people work in nursing homes, my family is experiencing it right now with a facility in Holly.
