Metro Detroit under Frost Advisory Thursday morning, bracing for cold snap on Monday and Tuesday

(WWJ) — It’s that time of year again — it’s starting to get chilly.

After parts of Southeast Michigan woke up to frost on the ground Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service has issued a more widespread Frost Advisory from 2-9 a.m. Thursday, touching more of Metro Detroit.

The advisory covers 11 counties, including Oakland, Washtenaw, Livingston, Genesee and Lapeer.

The NWS says overnight temperatures will dip into the mid 30s, resulting in frost formation. Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected.

AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Thompson said after Thursday morning’s frost, we’ll see a “brief warmup” — with Friday temps in the upper 70s, possibly creeping into the 80s — before temperatures drop again.

“Then there’s gonna be a more intense push of some cooler air, so we’ll see temperatures drop over the weekend,” Thompson told WWJ Newsradio 950’s Tracey McCaskill on Weather Wednesday.

“By the time we get to Monday and Tuesday, high temperatures really may not get much past the low-to-mid-50s, so it’s gonna be even cooler than what we’re seeing right now,” Thompson said.

AccuWeather says there could be “occasional rain” on Saturday and “a couple showers” on Sunday.
