MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) — A Royal Oak man is being held on $1 million bond after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend, who says she stabbed him in self-defense when she came home to find him in her Madison Heights home.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 27-year-old Jonah Lowe with 10 felonies, including home invasion and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The charges stem from an incident at a home on Delton — near 11 Mile and John R — around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, according to the Madison Heights Police Department.

Officials say that’s when Lowe called 911 to report he had been stabbed in the neck by his girlfriend.

Police got a second 911 call indicating that the victim — a 25-year-old woman who said she was Lowe’s ex-girlfriend — had been shot by Lowe at the same home.

When officers showed up they found the woman with a gunshot wound to the leg. She told police that she stabbed Lowe in self-defense and that he had fled the scene. She was taken to Corewell Health Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Investigators learned that Lowe had entered the woman’s home while she was away and hid inside, waiting for her to come back. When she entered the home, carrying her 2-year-old daughter, Lowe allegedly approached her and pointed a handgun at her. Police officials said Lowe refused to let them leave the house.

The woman told police she was eventually able to grab a kitchen knife and while he was distracted, she stabbed him. While she ran out of the house with her daughter, he allegedly fired one shot, hitting her in the leg.

The woman then ran to a neighbor’s house to get help, while Lowe fled to his home on Blair St. in Royal Oak.

Police from Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Berkley, Clawson and Ferndale eventually arrested Lowe at his home. He was taken to the same hospital to be treated for his stab wound and was said to be in stable condition.

Lowe has been charged with first-degree home invasion, discharging a firearm in or at a building causing injury, unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, assault with a dangerous weapon and five counts of felony firearm. The home invasion charge carries a punishment of up to 20 years in prison.

Lowe was arraigned Monday and given a $1 million bond, Madison Heights police officials said.
