(WWJ) A Detroit man accused in the stabbing of a 7-year-old Muslim girl at a neighborhood park will remain in jail, after a judge revoked his bond.

Bond for 73-year-old Gary Lansky had been set at $2 million when he was arraigned last week . However, online court records show that 36th District Court Judge William C. McConico later ruled there would be no bond for Lansky.

According a report by the Detroit News, the victim's family feared that Lansky commit another attack if released. "They don't sleep at night," said Elizabeth Locey, the girl's grandmother, per the newspaper . "I see my daughter up at night at 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning. She can't sleep."

To be clear, Lansky did not post his initial bond and has been held in the Wayne County Jail since his arrest following the Oct. 8 stabbing.

According to the victim's family, Saida Mashrah was supervised by her grandmother as she played at Ryan Park, in the area of Greenview and Kirkwood, with three other children.

That's when it's alleged that Lansky approached Saida, grabbed her by her head, tilted it back and slashed her throat with a pocketknife. It's alleged that Lansky tried to stab the girl in the stomach, but she kicked him and escaped.

The Detroit News reports that Lansky allegedly approached the victim's grandmother, still holding the knife, but fled when the kids began to scream.

Saida was treated for a knife wound to her neck.

Lansky was charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office with assault with intent to murder, and felonious assault.

The victim is Yemeni-American Muslim, and while there's been talk that the could have been a hate crime, officials have so far said that Lansky's motive is unclear.

The Michigan Chapter of Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) said it has spoken with the family, as well as with police, and is monitoring this situation carefully.

In a statement , CAIR-MI Executive Director, Dawud Walid called for a hate crime investigation. “While the charges faced by Garly Lansky are serious, we urge the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this matter to determine whether hate was a motivating factor in the attack," Walid said.

Lansky was next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a probable cause hearing. He faces up to life in prison if he's convicted as charged.
