A boil water advisory for the eastbank of New Orleans has been extended after two samples showed increased total coliform -- an indication there may be harmful bacteria present, even though tests specifically done for E. coli were negative.

"Total coliform itself is not usually harmful, but it can indicate that other, potentially harmful, bacteria may be present. However, both samples tested negative for E. coli bacteria," the Sewerage & Water Board said. "All other 88 East Bank samples and all 10 West Bank samples were clear."

The boil advisory for Algiers Point has been lifted.
