One of the top cornerbacks in the state commits to LSU

Ruston High School’s Aidan Anding announced his commitment to LSU on Saturday. He becomes the third cornerback in the Tigers 2025 recruiting class. DJ Pickett from the Tampa, Florida area and Kade Phillips from Missouri City, Texas are the other two.

Anding is a three-star prospect, who was strongly considering Texas, until LSU made him an offer in late June.

On3 ranks him as the 13th best player in Louisiana and the 37th best cornerback in the country.

He’s fast and just helped Ruston win its first state championship in football since 1990. Anding’s 54-yard punt return for a touchdown got the Bearkats going as they went on to beat Zachary in the Division One non-select state title game.

Anding didn’t start playing football for the Bearcats until his junior season.

Basketball seemed to be his first love. And this past season, he averaged nearly 15 points, three assists and 2.5 steals while also shooting 37% from three-point territory.

Anding also excels in track as he finished second in the 5A long jump at the LHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships last May.

But at six-foot, 170 pounds, Anding has quickly blossomed as a college prospect in football. During his junior campaign, he had 34 tackles, two sacks, four interceptions, ten pass breakups. Those numbers were good enough for him to earn first team Class 5A All-State honors.

On the same day that LSU received Anding’s commitment, five-star safety/outside linebacker and baseball star, Jonah Williams from Galveston, announced his commitment to Texas.

The Tigers tried hard to lure Williams to the Bayou State as they had LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson involved in his recruitment. But Williams said the opportunities at Texas with life after football were part of his choice.

Williams is the highest ranked commitment for Texas since former Newman star Arch Manning in the Class of 2023.
