Film production in Louisiana has struggled to find its way back to pre-pandemic levels, but some say that doesn't always have to be the case.

Writer's and Actor's strikes did not help either, but many industry professionals remained optimistic in spite of those things as people will always crave content.

So what could be the holdup now for a big comeback? Jason Waggenspack, president of Film Louisiana says the perfect storm continues. “The economy and inflation have made it so production has gone to Canada and overseas," he said.

There's an estimated 65% decline in revenue from the industry over the last few years in NOLA. Waggenspack says, though, we need only weather the storm a little longer until the good times roll again.

"I think by the end of 2024 into the start of 2025, we can expect to see a return."

There is another thorn in the industry's side, however, that may further impact things. One you might not expect.

"Election years have an impact, slow things down. People wait to see how we will spend money for the next four years," he said. And then if Louisiana proves itself to be welcoming to the industry, it could be full steam ahead again.
