Police say a pedestrian who died in an early morning crash walked out in front of a pickup truck near the Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse.

The ensuing crash killed 19-year-old Kyrin Dotson of Baton Rouge.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Toyota Tundra was traveling northbound on LA 23 in the left lane," Trooper Shelby Mayfield said in a news release. "At the same time, Dotson was walking east, across the northbound lanes of travel on LA 23, directly into the flow of traffic. As a result, the Toyota struck Dotson in the left lane of the roadway."

EMS pronounced Dotson deed on the scene just after 4:00am.

It happened on LA 23, just north of Seatrain Road.

"As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from the pedestrian and the driver of the Toyota for analysis. This crash remains under investigation."

Belle chasse is not the place for all this traffic. They need signs for pedestrians to cross. This is heartbreaking 💔 19 years old. The cars are speeding like it's a race track. Where are the cops? they are rude not letting you cross over. They have cars running into poles, knocking the power out for hours, and there is an accident every day. This is ridiculous and not safe.
