One person is dead and another is in a hospital after separate shootings that police say may be related.

According to a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson, it all started with a fight outside a business in South Carrollton Avenue near Tulane Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Sunday. As a group of people including one of the parties involved in that fight were driving away from the scene, a gunman drove up and began shooting.

The victims drove a few blocks before they crashed their car into a fire hydrant at the intersection of Baudin and South Solomon Streets, flipping the vehicle.

In all, five women were wounded. One of those women later died at a hospital.

About 10 minutes later, police responded to another shooting about a half-mile away from the first shooting. Police say a gunman pulled up to a car parked on Lacombe Street between Hayne and Curran Boulevards and started shooting. in which a man and a woman were sitting and opened fire. The woman ran away, while the man drove away.

The man suffered a gunshot wound and is in the hospital. Police did not say if the woman was injured.

If you know anything about these shootings, call the NOPD at 504-658-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
