Heading into the season, you can identify a few players that LSU could not afford to lose to a major injury. Fifth-year senior Jacobian Guillory was on that list.

Guillory unfortunately tore his Achilles tendon in Saturday night’s 44-21 win over Nicholls State, an injury that will sideline him for the rest of the season.

“He was a stalwart for us, big physical, point of attack guy,” said coach Brian Kelly. “You are losing a very strong inside presence.”

Kelly said Guillory underwent surgery on Monday and conversations have begun with his family about the possibility of a medical redshirt, so he can come back next season.

Kelly said they have options at defensive tackle and the coaching staff has ideas on what they can do with the front to make up for the loss of a good run stuffer.

Junior college transfer Shone Washington replaced Guillory once he left, and Kelly liked what he saw. Washington had three tackles against Nicholls.

Kelly said they will also look at activating freshman defensive tackle Dominick McKinley, a five-star prospect from Acadiana High School, who was considered the top prospect in the state coming out of high school.

McKinley has yet to play this season so it sounds like defensive line coach Bo Davis will be getting McKinley ready for action.

There’s also freshman Ahmad Breaux, who added 35 pounds since arriving at LSU in January.

Kelly also mentioned they may move some defensive ends to defensive tackle, but he didn’t name names.
