The New Orleans Saints had everything go right in Week 1 of the NFL season, but there's already a curveball as they move forward in the form of Tropical Storm Francine.

The tropical system that's been gathering in the Gulf of Mexico has the potential to make landfall on Wednesday as a Category 1-2 hurricane during the middle of this week. The fast-moving storm would currently be projected to arrive on Wednesday afternoon, creating obvious issues for the Saints in terms of their weekly prep schedule.

"It doesn’t sound like this is anything that’s gonna cause for an evacuation, Saints head coach Dennis Allen said on WWL Radio. "I think this is gonna be one where, you know, we may have to alter the schedule a little bit."

The coach said the plan at this point is to weight the updates to the storm's outlook in the morning on Tuesday, a scheduled off day, before having a Zoom call with his team at some point in the afternoon. At this point the goal would be to have practices at the team's facility in Metairie.

This process is nothing new for a Saints team that regularly has to manage playing games during the heights of the Atlanta hurricane season. Most recently the team temporarily relocated to Dallas due to Hurricane Ida prior to the start of the 2021 season. The Saints held practice at TCU before the season opener that had been relocated to Jacksonville as the city of New Orleans got back on its feet.

The Saints are headed back to Dallas this week either way as they set for an NFC South showdown against the Cowboys, a team that has won 12 games each of the past three seasons.

“I think we probably do this better than anyone else in the National Football League," Allen said. "So we’ll figure it out."

The game kicks off at noon (central) on Sunday, Sept. 15. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
