While it first strengthened when it made landfall, Francine has since weakened to a Tropical Storm after getting as powerful as a Category 2 hurricane late Wednesday afternoon.

The National Hurricane Center shared that maximum sustained winds slowed from 100 mph to 45 mph by early Thursday morning as the storm moved about 60 miles north of New Orleans.

On social media, residents shared photos and videos of the storm’s destructive capabilities , with posts of downed power lines , fallen trees, building damage , flood waters , and more .

One scary moment was caught live on camera by WDSU when life footage showed a man in a truck that was submerged, trapping him before a good samaritan stepped in to save him from the flood waters.

Another video shared on X showed floodwaters sweeping over a cemetery while winds hammered power lines almost to their breaking point.

WBRZ shared a photo of a tree that was brought down by the storm on a truck in Livingston Parish.

The storm is expected to continue to dissipate as it moves across west-central Mississippi and into the Mid-South on Thursday and Friday.

By late Thursday, meteorologists say it should become a tropical depression and a post-tropical cyclone by Thursday night or early Friday.

The storm ripped across Louisiana on Wednesday, leaving heavy rain, high winds, and threats of storm surge and tornadoes across the region.

The hurricane center shared that as of 5 a.m. Thursday , tropical storm warnings were in effect along the Gulf coast, from Grand Isle, Louisiana, to the Alabama-Florida state line.

The storm left more than 380,000 utility customers without power on Thursday morning, according to PowerOutage.us.
