Where did Derek Carr’s Michael Jackson TD celebration come from? ‘I’m a dancer’

Derek Carr doesn't get a lot of opportunities for end zone dances, in fact, his last rushing touchdown ahead of this past Sunday was all the way back in his 2020 season.

But when he plowed in from 1 yard out he already had the Michael Jackson dance move queued up. The moment quickly went viral with a surprised reaction from onlookers, but the Saints QB says that's just because they don't know him particularly well.

"I’m a dancer in my day," he said after the 44-19 Saints win. "Don’t let the four kids fool you, I had to lure their mom in somehow.”

Carr said he routinely hits the dance floor at weddings and family events, and that's where he first broke out that move. His brothers saw it and told him he needed to use it after a touchdown someday, and that day was this past Sunday.

It was all part of what has been a whirlwind of positive emotion for the Saints to start the season, the first time since 2009 the franchise has had a team score more than 40 points in each of the first two games. Carr finished the day 11-16 passing with a pair of touchdowns. Ahead of Monday Night Football he leads the NFL in passing touchdowns (5) and QB rating (142.4) through two weeks.

"When you’re a team and you’re selfless these kind of days can happen," Carr said, "and our guys are fully bought into that. … That makes me so happy to see, because you never know who’s day it’s gonna be, who’s gonna have the big day, and to see our guys buy in to that the first couple weeks has been really cool.”

The Saints' next chance to build on their 2024 vibes will come back in front of the home fans at the Caesars Superdome when they host the Philadelphia Eagles.
