Authorities say the number of homes with flooding and wind damage in Kenner is becoming more clear as they get additional data from Hurricane Francine.

"As the number of damaged and flooded homes in Kenner climbs to approximately 515," Public Information Officer Valerie Brolin said in a news release. "Officials from GOHSEP, FEMA, SBA and Jefferson Parish are conducting assessments with Kenner’s Emergency Operations to confirm damages reported."

She says they are working to ensure the city and Jefferson Parish have accurate information to determine if they reach the threshold for federal assistance.

Local leaders were upset that Jefferson was not included in the initial emergency declaration from the White House.

Brolin advises residents to expect to see crews conducting field surveys in affected Kenner neighborhoods.

“In the past forty-eight (48) hours, the number of flooded homes has risen from 264 to well over 500, so with continued evaluation and reporting, I am confident Jefferson Parish will meet the threshold for our residents to access all avenues of individual disaster assistance. We are working tirelessly so that accurate numbers result in Jefferson Parish’s inclusion in the federal governments emergency declaration,” said Kenner Mayor Mike Glaser.
