With nicer temperatures comes the desire to be outside, but some say they are running right back in from mosquitoes!

There are even reports of them being a more aggressive species and hard to combat.

Dr. Kristen Healy, Entomologist with the LSU Ag Center, says it has been a perfect storm of circumstances that have contributed to the large amounts of mosquitoes.

"With the amount of rain and warm temperatures, they are hatching out of dormant areas."

But what if you like being outside? Dr. Healy has a few things you can do.

"Repellent is still a good option; just be sure to check the EPA rating on the product. That will inform you if it actually repels mosquitoes and for how long. Also, some of the popular products that use compounds and scents such as citronella. And, stay in touch with your local mosquito control board."

So grabbing the right repellent will do the trick in the meantime but, as for when they will go away.....

"Mosquitoes have a hibernation period brought on by cooler temperatures and shorter days. For Louisiana, it is generally in November when we start to see mosquito populations settle down."

However, Dr. Healy says Hurricane Milton will most likely cause another rise in the mosquito population before they take their long winter's nap.
