Commencement ceremony set for Smith College in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – In Northampton, Smith College will hold its 2024 commencement Sunday morning on campus.

Smith College will have five leaders in the arts of academia, journalism, social justice, philanthropy, and business, with honorary degrees. Instead of having a keynote speaker this year, the five leaders will offer words of wisdom and congratulate this year’s graduates.

Honorary degrees will be awarded to:

• Maria Luisa Arroyo Cruzado, poet laureate, and feminist intersectional educator
• Ruth E. Carter, two-time Academy Award-winning American film costume designer
• Ertharin Cousin, CEO & managing director of Food Systems for the Future
• Jill Lepore, award-winning academic, journalist and writer
• Reeta Roy, CEO of Mastercard Foundation

On Sunday, there will be a breakfast for students from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. which will be served in Cutter/Ziskind, King/Scales, Cushing/Emerson, Chase, and Tyler houses, according to their website . The commencement will take place at the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility at 10:00 a.m. A commencement brunch will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
