Holyoke students tour veterans home construction

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A special opportunity for high school students in Holyoke Thursday.

Accompanied by Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia, a group of carpentry students from Dean Technical High School visited the construction site of the new Holyoke Veterans Home Thursday morning.

The students toured the soon-to-be 350,000-square-foot building as a way to gain hands-on learning for their respective trades, and to be more involved with the community.

Career and Technical Director at Dean Joel McAuliffe, told 22News, “Our students are incredibly involved in their community. They’re focused on giving back to their community and also getting that work-based learning that’s so important to their trade. To see something happening right here in Holyoke, right here in their backyard, is a tremendous opportunity.”

The new veterans home is expected to be completed in 2028.
