AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – The weather on Monday has caused several Memorial Day services to alter their events, including in the Town of Agawam.

    22News Storm Team Forecast

The Agawam Memorial Day parade scheduled for Monday morning was canceled but it didn’t stop the town from honoring their fallen heroes. The ceremony held inside the Agawam Junior High School featured multiple veterans speaking at the podium about the time period they served along with families coming up to pay their respects.

22News spoke with Agawam Mayor Christopher Johnson about the quick change of plans, “We had the annual Memorial Day ceremonies and unfortunately with the weather, we were stuck inside but today is a day to really honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our community.”

Mayor Johnson also told 22News that he is thankful for the Veterans Council and Veterans Agency for the hard work they did to put the ceremony together.
