(WWLP) – Amazon Prime Day started Tuesday. And for online shoppers across the world, it brings a lot of excitement with deals, but there are also some things to watch out for.

In years past, Amazon Prime Day has sold upwards of 375-million items, and this year is looking no different. Online shopping makes it easy for consumers to make purchases but it also makes it easy for those looking to scheme people with fake products or ads.

“I actually got a few messages… ‘oh your package is ready to be delivered’ but I didn’t buy anything so I tend not to open those emails,” said Malachi Dowdell of Springfield.

Right in your email inbox is where you can receive many of these different schemes. It is important to be able to recognize the different possible warnings besides the sender.

Dowdell notes, “The end of the email is where things tend to be a little sloppy so they are not checking their spelling as much or their sign off handle as much.”

When you are online shopping at home it’s not only important to look at what the website link says, who sent you the ad or for emails requesting your personal information.

Schemes can come in many different forms. It could be a look-a-like website or a too-good-to-be-true social media product.

“I’m big on reviews, I always have to read reviews before I buy something,” said online shopper Samantha Ahlberg of East Longmeadow. She told 22News, “I’m honestly looking at the reviews, looking it up, seeing if other people have found the same thing, bought the same thing, making sure that people have what I am going to get to make sure it is legitimate.”

Experts also recommend never typing in your log-in or any important personal information into emails or social media links before thoroughly looking over and verifying the contents.

Dowdell suggests, “Just double check that you are actually buying anything if you know, just be 100% certain that that sender is legitimate, and if you are not certain, then don’t click on the link.”

If you are ever confused by an email, log into your account through the proper link to verify your account, purchases and orders.
