AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Gary White, who was shot in August 2023.

Victim in deadly Springfield shooting on East Columbus Ave. identified

In a recent development related to a year-old murder investigation, Springfield Police, in collaboration with several law enforcement agencies, arrested 26-year-old Jared Dewberry in connection with the August 2023 shooting death of Gary White.

The investigation began on August 10, 2023, when officers were called to the 500 block of East Columbus Avenue in Springfield for reports of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, police found White with gunshot wounds. White was brought to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died.

An investigation was launched by the Springfield Police Homicide Unit, and after extensive work over the past year, detectives obtained a warrant for Dewberry’s arrest on Tuesday. Law enforcement officers successfully arrested Dewberry at his home on the 0100 block of Glendale Road in Agawam.

Following his arrest, Dewberry was courtesy booked in Agawam before being brought to Springfield Police Headquarters. He is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Tuesday afternoon.

At the time of the murder and subsequent arrest, Dewberry was out on bail for unrelated firearms charges stemming from a June 2020 arrest. His booking photo will be made available upon request following his arraignment.

    Dewberry faces several charges, including:

    • Murder
    • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
    • Carrying a Firearm without a License
    • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
