SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Caribbean people love sharing their culture with others and on Tuesday morning the community was able to embark on a journey to the islands at today’s taste of the Caribbean event.

The Caribbean American African Athletics Social Club along with the Springfield Carnival Association created a full spread of dishes ranging from jerk chicken, to delectable beef patties, and even rasta pasta.

“When people come over from the different islands sometimes they yearn for the things that they’re used to,” said Delva Campbell, treasurer of the Caribbean American African Athletics Social Club. She told 22News, “It’s just a fun day for everyone to come out and enjoy. Just to learn a little bit and see what the culture of the Caribbean is and just to learn a little bit more about what goes on in the Caribbean.”

This event is meant to bring a little piece of home to Springfield. Carnival is a top cultural extravaganza attracting revelers worldwide featuring a combination of tailgate parties, concerts, dance sessions and lots of delicious foods!

Tuesday’s tasting was meant to celebrate the rich and vibrant community ahead of this year’s carnival parade which takes place on Saturday, August 17.

The parade kicks off from Rebecca Johnson School and goes down to Blunt Park.
