ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) – Emergency responders were called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident late Monday night, where a car crashed into a tree near 89 West Myrtle Street.

The accident occurred around 8:38 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the road, climbed a retaining wall, became airborne, and struck a tree.

The impact of the crash resulted in moderate damage to the car, but the presence of the tree prevented the vehicle from rolling over or crashing into a nearby garage.

The driver was able to self-extricate from the vehicle and was brought to Athol Hospital and is expected to be okay. Local authorities and video footage from the area confirmed that the tree played a crucial role in halting the car’s momentum.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation and we will provide updates as soon as new information becomes available.
