SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts (GSCWM) announced Thursday that they have received a $15,000 grant from the Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation.

This grant will support the “It’s A Girls World” program, an initiative aimed at engaging young girls in Hampden County in STEM, financial literacy, and personal wellness.

The “It’s A Girls World” program targets girls in grades K-6 and offers after-school activities designed to introduce them to careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), while also providing essential lessons in financial literacy and health. Through hands-on experiences, participants learn about budgeting, prototype crafting, and the exploration of personal strengths and skills.

“We are extraordinarily grateful to be recognized by the Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation as an organization seeking to improve the quality of lives of girls in our community,” said Theresa Lynn, CEO of GSCWM. “Introducing middle school girls to STEM careers they might not have known existed or showing them what a budget looks like; helping elementary school kids craft prototypes for inventions or simply introducing them to the joy of discovering new things, hinting at where their strengths and skills lie, enables members to realize their own potential and gain critical skills they will carry throughout their lives. It is made possible by this generous support.”

The Girl Scout Leadership Experience provides a variety of engaging, challenging, and fun activities that aim to help girls develop a strong sense of self, display positive values, and form healthy relationships. It encourages them to seek challenges, learn from setbacks, and solve community problems.

The Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting nonprofit organizations that work to improve the quality of life in Hampden County. Their generous contribution will enable the GSCWM to continue its mission of empowering young girls and preparing them for future success.
