How to protect your home from storm damage

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – People in Longmeadow continued the cleanup Friday after severe storms rolled through the area Thursday night.

One area that was hurt particularly badly last night is at the intersection of Laurel and Farmington Avenue.

Several trees and large limbs came crashing down some landing on houses. We spoke with one neighbor who took a proactive approach to protect their property.

“So we had had a couple huge limbs fall on our detached garage causing like a couple thousand dollars damage so we didn’t wanna go through it every time there was a storm,” said Allison Farkas of Longmeadow. “We did have our trees assessed to make sure they were healthy and cut down some branches that were unhealthy.”

Experts say that it’s important to secure any large pieces of furniture outside of your home
and if there are any large trees on your property it’s a good idea to have them assessed by an arborist.
