NEWTOWN, Conn. (WWLP) – While many saw rain on Sunday, parts of Connecticut saw historic flooding with some towns seeing over ten inches of rain.

Catastrophic and historic flooding in Connecticut with parts of New Haven and Fairfield Counties saw over 10 inches of rain on Sunday. Oxford, Connecticut received over a foot of rainfall with Monroe seeing 10 inches.

1 person found dead, at least 1 still missing after being swept away by floodwaters in Oxford

This led to roads being washed out, homes and businesses being damaged and even people having to be rescued from the flood waters in their cars. These kinds of floods are referred to as 1 in 1,000-year floods.

This does not mean it happens once every 1,000 years. It means a flood like this has a 0.1% chance of happening in any given year.
