AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – A popular swimming and recreation area in Amherst has been closed for swimming after several previous closures this summer.

According to the Town of Amherst’s website , swimming is prohibited at Puffer’s Pond because of high bacteria levels after recent testing. The pond is tested weekly between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Amherst offers other swimming opportunities for residents with two outdoor swimming pools, a wading pool, and a spray pad. Information on pool access can be found at the Town of Amherst Pools website .
