BOSTON (WWLP) – Governor Healey announced deals to transfer five Steward Health Care hospitals on six campuses last week, but there is still no word from Steward on the status of these sales.

A hearing on these hospitals’ sales has been postponed several times but is currently scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

According to the governor. Lawrence General Hospital will buy the Holy Family Hospital facilities in Methuen and Haverhill, Lifespan will purchase Morton Hospital in Taunton and Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, and Boston Medical Center will take over the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

The Massachusetts state government will take over St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton via eminent domain, which will keep the hospital open and functional until it can be transitioned to Boston Medical Center’s control.

“I’m pleased to say we’re closing the book on Steward once and for all in Massachusetts. Good riddance and goodbye,” said Governor Healey at a press conference. “Know that we’re going to continue to do everything we can on our team, our of our administration, to stand by patients, our communities, and our incredible healthcare workers.”

Steward-owned Nashoba Valley Medical Center and Carney Hospital are still slated to shut their doors in less than two weeks, even as the Department of Public Health says they provide essential healthcare services to Massachusetts communities.

Although Steward does not own any facilities in western Massachusetts, the ownership changes and upcoming closures of hospitals will have ripple effects on health care across the state.
