SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – (WWLP) Baystaters will soon hit the road for Labor Day weekend.

AAA predicts the worst time to kick off your road trip is the Thursday before Labor Day weekend between the hours of 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. “If you can leave Wednesday, that’s pretty good because we’re going to start seeing travel volume pick up on Thursday,” shared Mark Schieldrop, AAA Northeast.

The best time to hit the road is expected to be Wednesday. Though Boston ranked in the top ten for Labor Day destinations, traffic is expected to be heavy throughout New England.

Some of the roadblocks you may encounter on your road trip include lane closures with construction season in high gear. Extra wiggle room is recommended when planning arrival time for your travel destination. About one to two hours are suggested during heavy traffic hours.

“I would say definitely a ton of buffer, cause today we were stuck in traffic for like half an hour. This road definitely gets crazy between Boston and New York,” shared Pei Gong, a driver in Springfield.

Other top destinations this Labor Day weekend include; Orlando, Anchorage, and Seattle. Whether you’re hitting the road for leisure or business leaving extra time to get to your destination will be key.
