SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – This weekend is the Judy Dixon Legacy tennis tournament at Forest Park.

    Tournament Events:

    • Men’s Singles Division
    • Men’s Doubles Division
    • Women’s Singles Division
    • Women’s Doubles Division
    • Mixed Doubles Division

This tournament aims to raise donations for a kid’s camp called Moving On Up with Tennis. Dozens of tennis players will play in this tournament to raise funds for this great program to help the next generation of tennis players develop a love for the game.

Moving On Up With Tennis promotes physical and mental development through tennis and education for kids ages 6 – 17 in the greater Springfield area. Their mission is to positively influence lives and to support the community through role modeling, integrity, teamwork, respect, empowerment, diversity, and fun activities.

Ahmed Faisal the director of this tournament has a special connection to the game of tennis and wants kids to be able to experience it too without any financial barriers.

“I saw myself in these kids and how passionate they are and how they just want to learn and play tennis. And we have a great tennis staff, coaches and you know that this is to show that we really do care about this sport and you know we care about the new generation which is the future for the sport.”

Moving On Up relies directly on sponsors and donations to maintain their programs so every dollar raised at this tournament this weekend will go right towards education and activities for the kids.

Although, it’s too late to sign up for this weekend’s tournaments spectators are encouraged to come by and watch from 8 am to 6 pm on Saturday and donate to this great cause.
