WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s an anniversary to remember for West Springfield, and everyone is welcome to celebrate.

A one-of-a-kind celebration is taking place in West Springfield on Saturday as thousands of people will be celebrating the town’s 250th anniversary.

West Springfield has been celebrating its birthday all year long with its official birthday back on February 23.

The town celebrated that day with a fireworks display. Now that celebration continues with a parade featuring local businesses and non-profits.

Marchers will gather at the St. Thomas School parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Then the parade kicks off at 11:00 a.m. Some of the parade participants include the mummers, the Melha Shriners, and other community groups. The parade will go down Kings Highway, then turn onto North Boulevard, from there onto Westfield Street, and then Van Deene Avenue, ending at the Town Hall on Central Street.

“A parade is one of the things they did 50 years ago for the 200th anniversary and when we had a public forum everyone was super excited and said we want to see another parade”, says Carly Camossi, Co-chair of West Springfield 250th committee.

22News Storm Team meteorologist Adam Strzempko will be at the parade driving the storm tracker.

The festivities end at town hall with live music and entertainment until 3:00 p.m. Noah Lis, a Palmer Native, and contestant on The Voice, will also perform at the event. Everyone is encouraged to bring family and friends, and maybe a chair, to join West Springfield for this historic celebration.
