SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The City of Springfield hosted a Children’s Business Fair on Saturday. Some of the children who attended were as young as seven-years-old, aspiring others to get started sooner than later.
Springfield community honors Leonard A. Corbin, the city’s first African American Firefighter The goal of the fair is to allow kids to develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers for a one-day marketplace. The fair featured 15th booths and is sponsored by Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business, and the support of donors and volunteers.
Sharing passion and talent with the community young business owners were showcasing their creativity at Kenefick Park in Springfield. It was a special day for the Children’s Business Fair.
“My inspiration was actually from Legoland,” expressed Armando Lopez Vargas of Springfield. “I saw the Lego keychains there and wanted to make my own.”
The same mindset driving other entrepreneurs to launch their passion into business.
April Ayala of Springfield told 22News, “I wanted to make a Christmas gift, so I made a bracelet I really enjoyed making. So, I bought a bunch of more beads for crochet plushies, I saw bunch of youtube videos and I wanted to make my own.”
“I started with making rubber band bracelets. I was really obsessed with making rubber band bracelets in school, I was selling them for 25-cents and then my grandma gave me some advice on making beaded bracelets,” said Springfield native Frances Rios.
In the meantime, some like Kamilah Rios of Springfield, say homemade food is also a great way to get business booming, “My business is basically selling the traditional Puerto Rican cake. What I’m hoping for is with every bite to somehow travel the person to a tropical moist paradise.”
More than 10 young entrepreneurs are showcasing their businesses to the community and developing life long skills. And although some say working with family could get complicated, these identical twins prove otherwise.
“We work together because we love working together, and we seek sharing and we do one thing,” expressed Luceli Nunez of Springfield. “So if my sister does the slime, and I do the bracelets; we seek taking turns.”
