Crews put out light fixture fire on Eastern Ave in South Deerfield

SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The South Deerfield Fire District was sent to a reported building fire late Friday night.

According to the South Deerfield Fire District, around 11:00 a.m., crews were sent to Eastern Ave for a reported building fire, and heavy smoke in the attic. When crews arrived, smoke was found in the attic area, but upon further investigation, a smoldering outside light fixture caused smoke to enter the attic through the exterior soffit.

The building had working smoke alarms which alerted residents of the issue before it became more serious. There is no word on if there were any injuries.
