CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Faded Barber Lounge is giving back to the youth in the community by helping them look their best before their exciting return to the classroom. The Lounge partnered with the city of Chicopee, the non-profit “Breaking Oppression”, Chicopee Public Schools and several other sectors of community, for their Back to School event on Sunday.

The Faded Barber Lounge set up shop at Rivers Park to offer free hair cuts for boys, and styling and manicures for girls. But, the “back to school” spirit certainly didn’t stop there! Chicopee Public Schools handed out backpacks and school supplies thanks to support from Cradles to Crayons, and there were various activities for families to enjoy, all free of charge.

Faded Barber Lounge owner Ricardo Diaz telling 22News what he feels the most important part of this event is.

“To me the most important thing is all the resources that we can give out to the families,” said Diaz. “Yes, haircuts is important, yes backpacks is important, but the resources here that we give out to the community, that to me is priority.”

Diaz thanked an extensive list of event sponsors, all who contributed to such an outstanding turn out. He stressed that this event would not be possible without the community coming together to unite around the city’s youth, and thanks to their collaborative efforts, Chicopee students are sure to start the year off right.
