    Discovery High School in Springfield opens new location

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Empowerment Zone has welcomed students to their new campus.

    Discovery High School has a new location right in downtown Springfield. Being on the 16th floor, the views of Springfield are amazing, but what is even more special is the students that go there. The high school has students from grades 9 through 12, with classes mostly in the STEM path and these students take college classes each year.

    “The vast majority of our students will accrue anywhere between 35 to 50 credits. A number of our students will actually have received their associate degree by the time they finish school,” said Springfield Empowerment Zone Co-Exectutive Director Matthew Brunell.

    The school originally started at Chestnut Middle School three years ago, but they now have their own space. There are 251 students at Discovery High School and a few of the students 22News met want to go into engineering, communications, and the medical field to help find a cure for cancer.
