SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Olympic Medalist Tim Mayotte was in Springfield Thursday ahead of the highly anticipated ‘Play the Clay’ fundraiser on September 8th.

Mayotte is a Springfield native and spent a lot of time on the red clay courts at Forest Park as a child, honing his craft, which propelled him towards glory on international stages.

In an effort to give back to his community, Mayotte is working with the Springfield Tennis Club to raise $25,000 to help maintain their clay courts for future generations of tennis players. “I’m spearheading this event at the Springfield Tennis Club to revive and restore the wonderful red clay courts that are here,” says Mayotte. “I don’t think a lot of people understand how important these courts have vented the development of tennis in New England but also throughout the United States, my family and a number of other families, really thrived here in these courts.”

This tennis event features activities for the whole family, including tennis pros teaching kids how to play, as well as professional exhibition matches.
