CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A second human case of EEE has been confirmed in Massachusetts.

It’s one of the dangerous mosquito-borne illnesses spreading in the northeast. The newest case is a woman in her 30s in Plymouth County. EEE has a mortality rate of 30 percent and often has lingering effects on those who survive.

The newest case has not raised any threat levels in the state. Officials continue to spray pesticides in areas already at high risk aiming to reduce mosquito populations.
