SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An animal shelter is looking for the public’s help to raise money needed for four pets in need of surgery.

Second Chance Animal Services, a nonprofit organization based in East Brookfield, launched a fundraiser to help cover the costs of two cats and two dogs that need immediate medical care. They have four vet hospitals located in Springfield, Worcester, Southbridge, and East Brookfield.

Rocky is a 14-week-old playful kitten who needs a right front leg amputation due to a painful, non-healing fracture. Iris is a 1-year-old domestic short-haired cat who needs a right rear leg amputation due to a complex, old fracture that has been causing her chronic pain.

KJ is a spirited 13-week-old Husky puppy who has a left front leg fracture that is beyond repair and will need to be amputated. Laura is an 8.5-year-old Pug who has an enlarged, painful eye due to glaucoma and a cataract and is scheduled for eye removal surgery and a spay. She will also need extensive dental work once she recovers.

“We are doing everything we can to keep these wonderful animals comfortable and hope to perform their much-needed surgeries within the next week,” said Lindsay Doray, Chief Development Officer. “The costs of these procedures and the necessary follow-up care are significant and the challenge of four at one time is straining our resources. We are asking for the community’s support to give these pets a chance at a pain-free, healthy life.”

“Each of these animals deserves a second chance,” added Doray. “With the community’s support, we can provide them the care they need to live happy, healthy lives.”
