PVTA workers approve new one-year contract

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – PVTA workers have officially voted to approve a new one-year contract.

The two sides reached a tentative deal over the weekend that prevented a strike that could have brought public transportation to a standstill in the Pioneer Valley. The ATU Local 448 Union which represents workers voted 125 to 68 to approve the new contract.

Negotiations had been ongoing for months after workers asked for an 18% wage increase over three years. The PVTA’s final offer only included 5%.

The exact details of the new contract have not been made public yet, but Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno told 22News that it included at least a 6% increase for workers.
